This week I am continuing working on the walls of my scene, at the beginning of the week I decided to create repeatable wall light model. I made it blocky for now, however I will return to it at a later point to make it more detailed and smoother.

The next section of detailing I worked on was the front door. I gave it a frame to match the other doors and started work on the smaller details on it like the locks and handles. I put in a blocked out frame in place of the iconic yellow frame, this is an important asset that I will be taking some time over, also since its not geometric I will be modelling it mainly in Zbrush, I think this is a more fitting program for the task as the yellow frame has lots of smooth indents and is quite a soft shape. For the details of the door I used reference images of people standing next to the door along with my scale man to help place the main elements, and then fit the rest in around them.

The yellow frame for reference.

I then imported the next door model into unreal. I decided not to separate the Uv's for separate texturing yet since I am going to be focusing mainly on textures and materials next week and will work on all of that then.

I also made my next main quick texture, a blue paint for the built kitchen elements. I made this tillable texture on substance designer like the others.

Another wall detail I added this week were the skirting boards, I created one repeatable section and then also one with a diagonal end for corner joints. I noticed from the skirtings I had made some of my green smaller wall details too big and so adjusted their size.

I used the top part of my previously made wall details to make the trim that goes all the way around the top of the room. Like the skirting, I used one normal piece and made a corner piece. It was modelling these sections that made me aware that my scale was wrong. I adjusted my doors to be shorter, changed the height of the kitchen shelves and adjusted some other assets like the kitchen counter to be thinner and the bookshelf and side table closest to the front door to be smaller. Also, after looking closely at my kitchen references I realised my kitchen was too wide in general and so adjusted that where necessary. I am alot happier with the scale now the only thing I could see that might need changing is the height of the ceiling, I feel like I could bring it down a bit. I also added frames to the two smaller windows, using the same elements as the door frames.

I am still working through my Trello.

My plan for next week is to work on blocking in my materials, just colour blocking mainly for the furniture, but I would like to finish up the main wall textures including the brick texture and the white tiles for the kitchen. I also want to keep working on the details on the walls, moving onto the ornaments and picture frames in the environment. Since I have a progress check during the next week that is looking for materials and more lighting, I will also be working on my lighting and trying to make it semi accurate to the typical lighting of the scene.
