I wanted to start the week by working on a specific texture just to get used to the process again and get an idea of what my models would look like textures. I decided on this utensil pot since it is one of the biggest items on the kitchen side and has an interesting front with the text. I created the front design in photoshop using their text tools and then drawing in the 1 cent section. I then saved it with a transparent background and imported it into substance painter as an alpha. I had some issues when using the design as a stencil so i decided to take a different approach and I just dragged the design onto the model which seemed to work alot better. For the base texture I just tried to give off a beige ceramic look and tried to match the colour to the original reference as best I could.

I then went onto do some more modelling and shelf filling, I used as many assets from the pervious shelf that I could to save myself some time, like the books, vase, tins and plant pots. I imported them into unreal and gave them the basic colour block textures where I could.

I also modelled the items on the beam shelves and started work on the kitchen curtains. I watched a YouTube video on how to make curtains using the pencil curve tool and the loft surface tool, I used this technique for the ruffled hanging curtains and for the curtain at the top I just modelled it from a plane.

I wanted to work on texturing so started to work my way through the kitchen items for uving. Looking back for next time, I would have uved as I went so that when it came to my repeatable assets I wouldn't have to replace them with the newly uved ones. I uved all of the kitchen side items, counter items and oven items, also the built in kitchen section, mini table and the oven itself.

Then I started working my way along the kitchen side texturing some of the assets. I used the same technique for the text on the sugar, coffee and team pots that I did for the utensil pot.

To continue working in this section of the kitchen I made a tillable wood texture for the wooden counter top. I used a YouTube video for this as well and found it very helpful and I really love the subtle, natural outcome. I created two different colour outputs, one lighter and one darker, so i could use this texture more widely. For example, I used the darker version of it on the mini table next to the fridge and put it on some of the side tables in the living space to ass how it looks and I liked the outcome alot, plus it'll save some time not having to create individual wood textures for each of the tables.

I also edited the plain blue paint texture just to give it some colour variation and some bumpiness to it so it looked more realistic. The outcome is very subtle but I think this is most accurate to the reference.

Here I have placed a light next to the texture to show off the pattern and colour variation.

During this week I have done some other small modelling bits like the flower pots on top of the fridge and the wall decorations above the microwave. I wish I was able to finish more of the texturing but I wanted to take my time with uving to make sure the textures I did make would look the best they could.

I have started a new labelling system on my Trello board, originally the green label meant done but I wanted to be able to show what I had uved and textured as well. So now for asset lists the green label shows it has been modelled, the pink label shows it has been uved and the grey label shows that it has been textured.

While I have been working in sections to help keep my focus I think next week I need to branch out and finish all the models I need to in the living space since I don't want to spend alot of time perfecting the kitchen and then running out of time to bring the living space up to that standard. So I'm going to hopefully finish all the models by next week and get as much uving done as possible so I can then really focus on texturing and bringing the scene together. Next week I also need to complete the first pass of my cinematic ready for my week 12 progress update deadline.
